Our services

Pre-flight Medical Certification

OrbitalMed provides mission support to Space Flight Participant (SFP) by guiding them through the pre-flight medical certification process.  To ensure the health and safety of the SFP, OrbitalMed will conduct an extensive pre-flight medical assessment that will minimize the risks during spaceflight.  This medical evaluation will be driven by the nature of the mission, length of stay on-orbit, expected on-orbit operations, and other medical history factors.  Once complete, our medical review panel will make an assessment on the overall physical health of the SFP and, if appropriate, certify the individual flyer for spaceflight.

Flight Monitoring to Support
0-g Acclimation

During the spaceflight, the OrbitMed medical team is on call 24/7 to provide guidance to the space flyer to smooth the body’s transition to zero gravity.  In addition, OrbitalMed will provide medical guidance to the Space Flight Participant (SFP) on the exercise protocols and supplements that will mitigate the effects of zero gravity on the body.  These countermeasures have been shown to significantly benefit the SFP when returning to the Earth and acclimating to normal gravity.

Pre-flight Training

While the flight certification process is being navigated, the OrbitalMed team will train the crewmember on emergency medical procedures, the operation of onboard medical equipment, and familiarity with onboard pharmaceuticals to assist the astronaut if faced with a medical challenge.  This training is intended to enable the SFP to intervene in medical related circumstances that might arise while conducting the space mission.

Post-flight Medical Assessment and
1-g Acclimation

Upon return of the crew to the Earth’s surface, OrbitalMed will assist the crewmember as he/she readjusts to the new environment on the planet.  During the period of acclimation to Earth’s gravity, health checks will be conducted, as needed, to verify that the Space Flight Participant (SFP) has returned from space and is ready and fit to return to normal activities.
